Water Conservation Program

The Water Conservation Division is located at 3333 Busch Road in Pleasanton and can be reached at (925) 931-5513.  Business hours vary by season.  Please leave a message to get a return call.

The Water Conservation Division provides customers with information and programs for efficient water use to help protect natural resources and reduce utility costs associated with water treatment and distribution.

2010 Urban Water Management Plan

The City’s 2010 Urban Water Management Plan has been adopted by City Council, and submitted to the Department of Water Resources. The plan was prepared in accordance with the California Urban Water Management Planning Act and the Water Conservation Bill of 2009. The guide is used as a long-term water supply planning tool.

WATER CONSERVATION PROGRAMS

Commercial Irrigation - There are nearly 900 irrigation meters in the City of Pleasanton.  About 230 of these irrigation meters belong to the City and are used for parks, street medians, and public building landscaping.  The remaining meters serve water irrigation customers.  Water for irrigation use represents 30-35% of the City's total water demand.

Bay Friendly is a holistic approach to gardening and landscaping that works in harmony with the natural conditions of the San Francisco Bay Watershed.  Bay-Friendly practices foster soil health, conserve water and other valuable resources while reducing waste and preventing pollution.

Rethink Your Lawn! Find out how to easily convert your lawn into a water-efficient garden by attending an upcoming demonstrations.

Visit Lose Your Lawn for one-stop information about local resources for losing your lawn.  The webiste has steop-by-step videos demonstrating how to use the no-dig technique of sheet mulching to cover up your existing lawn with cardboard and mulch, and how to convert an existing sprinkler system to drip irrigation.

 

Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour is a great opportunity to see local gardens landscaped with climate-adapted plants. If you are wondering what to do to improve your outdoor water-efficiency, this is a great chance to get ideas!

 

 

Clean Water Program - a combined effort with local governments, residents and local businesses working together to protect area creeks, wetlands and ultimately San Francisco Bay. 


The program educates the public on how to keep businesses and homes from contributing to storm water pollution, and also coordinates its activities with other pollution prevention programs, such as wastewater treatment plants, hazardous waste disposal, and water recycling.  These elements are all critical in preserving our precious natural resources.
