Helping Our Commercial Customers Save Money

Free Water Conservation Signs for Bathrooms

City of Pleasanton commercial water customers can receive free signs to post on lavatory mirrors to remind bathroom patrons to conserve water. The signs are non-stick, 4 x 3 inch, plastic mirror clings. They are easy to post (just remove the back peel), as well as remove.

Interested customers can contact the City’s Water Conservation Coordinator with the number of clings you are requesting for your business by emailing Rita Dicandia.

Restaurants can save money by investing in water efficient pre-rinse spray valves. Pre-rinse spray valves are relatively inexpensive (around $55), and purchase costs are recuperated by utility savings. In addition to reducing water consumption, these spray heads also reduce water-heating energy; bringing down both gas and electricity costs!

Studies have shown that replacing one inefficient spray head with a water efficient model is capable of saving approximately 50 gallons of water per day, 0.35 therms of gas per day, and 4.8kWh of energy per day. (Annual savings of 18,250 gallons of water, 128 therms of gas, and 1,752kWh of electricity.) For more information, check out the California Urban Water Conservation Council website: http://www.cuwcc.org/sprayvalves.lasso.

Tips on How Your Business can Save Water

Smart businesses know that keeping water consumption low will help reduce operating costs. Up front investments in water-efficient devices will save your business money later in water bill costs, and often also in energy and heating costs. Follow these tips to start saving water today:

  • Replace water-inefficient devices with efficient models: ultra-low-flush toilets and urinals, clothes washers, dishwashers, showerheads, pre-rinse spray valves, and faucet aerators.
  • Only run washing machines and dishwashers with full loads.
  • If your business has outdoor landscaping, update water-inefficient parts of your irrigation system. For information on Weather Based Irrigation Controllers, check out the Irrigation Association website: http://www.irrigation.org/SWAT/Industry/ia-tested.asp.
  • Instead of washing down hard surface work spaces, use a broom.
  • If you operate a car wash, install a water recycling system to reclaim water. A conventional carwash can use around 39 gallons of water per car washed; compared to only 3 - 13 gallons when fitted with a recycled water system.
